The excretion of radioiodine in human semen.

چکیده
Human seminal plasma is made by the secretory fluids produced in the epididymis, vasa deferentia, ampulla, seminal vesicles, prostate, and bulbourethral glands. Its composition can be altered by orally or parenterally administered substances. Ethanol is secreted by the prostate in about the same concentration as by the kidney, with inhibition of spermatozoal motility. 1 Teratogenic drugs like thalidomide2 or estrogens3 , when ingested by male rabbits, appear in their semen and exert an unfavorable influence on their subsequent reproductive performance. This work is designed to study the seminal excretion of radioactive iodine and to correlate the seminal qualitative differences with a pattern of excretion. The tracer radioisotape technic enables one to study more closely and conveniently the dynamics of the seminal secretion of various substances.

Effects of treatment with radioiodine (¹³¹I) on the gonadal function of the hyperthyroid patients
Introduction: Hyperthyroidism is a relatively common disorder caused by different etiologies. Graves’ disease, and toxic-nodular goiter (Plummer’s disease) are among the most common causes. Treatment with radioiodine is considered to be the treatment of choice in many of the patients. Higher biological half-life of ¹³¹I in hyperthyroid patients as compared with patients with differentiate...
متن کاملEstimation of absorbed dose of salivary glands in radioiodine therapy and its reduction using pilocarpine [Persian]
Introduction: The use of radioactive iodine (131I) has become an important adjunct to the treatment of thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism. Salivary gland has the ability to concentrate radioactive iodine under normal circumstances. Salivary gland dysfunction and dry mouth are the common side effectsof high-dose radioiodine therapy. The purposeof this stu...
متن کاملColonic excretion of iodide in normal human subjects.
Patterns of fecal radioiodine excretion were studied in seven normal young men with intact, unblocked thyroid glands, who received repeated oral daily doses of [125I]iodide in an attempt to achieve isotopic equilibrium. Fecal radioactivity was assumed to have originated either in the circulating inorganic radioiodine (radioiodide) compartment or in the circulating hormonal protein-bound iodine ...
متن کاملRadiation dose of caregivers could be reduced in thyroid carcinoma patients requiring high dose of radioactive iodine: A case report
Undesired radiation exposure to caregivers is an important problem in radioiodine therapy in thyroid carcinoma patients, especially when patient is non-ambulatory. Special precautions are needed to keep the exposure to caregivers low when higher dose of radioiodine is necessary. Here we present a case-report of a 74-year old male patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma with local invasion and...
